👥 may involve minor "side characters," such as sidekicks, maids, guards, and relatives of the main character(s)
⚔️ these characters may be working towards or against the goals of the main plot
🔍 subplots can be used to give readers deeper insight into lesser-known characters by diving into unknown characters' backstories, desires, goals, and more

Side plot:
🚫 unconnected to the main plot- does NOT contain the main character(s)
🌐 usually does not impact the main narrative in a major way
🤷‍♂️ the characters mentioned in the side plot may not even know the main character(s) in the book!
